Why You Can't Buy Energy to a CEX Wallet

Updated 2026-08-30 · views 4

Many users transfer USDT from an exchange account (Binance, OKX, etc.) and then find the rented energy "useless". Here's why:

An exchange address ≠ your address

What to do instead

  1. Use a non-custodial wallet (TronLink, imToken, TP Wallet, etc.) to create your own address
  2. Use your own address to receive energy and send transfers
  3. Exchange addresses are only for withdrawing to your own wallet — never the target of an energy rental

How to tell

If you hold the private key / seed phrase, it's "your address". The address inside your exchange account is not.
