Every operation on the TRON network consumes network resources, mainly of two kinds: Bandwidth and Energy.
Bandwidth
- Regular transfers (e.g., TRX) mainly consume bandwidth
- Every account gets a small free bandwidth quota each day
Energy
- Executing smart contracts consumes energy
- A USDT (TRC20) transfer is essentially a smart-contract call, so it consumes energy
- When an account runs out of energy, the network automatically burns TRX to make up the difference — this is where "fees" come from
Where does energy come from?
- Free quota: a small daily allowance, usually not enough for USDT transfers
- Staking TRX: staking grants energy; unstaking takes 14 days
- Renting energy: "borrow" energy from someone else's stake — arrives in minutes, rent only what you need, no capital locked
In short: energy is the fuel for everything you do on TRON. Renting energy is the low-cost way to keep the tank full so USDT transfers stop burning TRX.
